In accordance with traditional website design wisdom, black text on a white background should the be the only way. But what if that traditional thinking is wrong?
For the record, this text is #999999 on a white background.
When I was doing a preview of a post on my other site, lusciousplanner.com, I did a bit of a double take when I did a post preview.
I found that the black text on the white background was, in fact, quite jarring for my font choice.
By turning the contrast down ever so slightly, I made the content easier to read for my 50 year old eyeballs, and it also created a bit of a more minimal feel to the content.
I only changed from #000000 to #999999, but the overall effect was definitely worth it.
Do you find #000000 on #ffffff jarring as well? Did you change your settings to create a more subtle or quieter design? Let me know in the comments!
