Like many, I’ve been having issues with getting motivated and staying focused these days.  I don’t know for sure if it’s the beautiful weather outside that calls me to flee my desk or the fact that we have some major happenings coming soon,  but I’m finding that I am easily sidetracked throughout the day and therefore it’s taking me a lot longer to get through my to-do list than it should.

If you’re having the same issues, here are a few ways to help you stay on track to creating a productive week for yourself and your family.

Use Sunday to Plan Your Week

Prepping for your week on Sunday evening will help you start things off on the right foot for Monday.  No guarantees that it will make Monday suck less though!

Take a few minutes before going to bed to review your week’s upcoming events and to a make sure that your family is all on the same page.  Ensure that all of your scheduled events are noted on everyone’s calendar to make sure you stay on top of work, kid activities and appointments for the week.

Outline Your Top 3 for the Week

Review all the “to-do’s” you have for the week and determine your top 3 priorities.

Make sure you’re leaving enough time and space to these activities to ensure that they have your full attention.  By limiting yourself to three, you allow yourself to focus on these activities and give them your all!

Outline Your Top 3 for Each Day

Giving yourself a top 3 each day does the same thing for your daily schedule as it does for your week!

Focusing on a small number of tasks means you are more likely to be able to achieve your goals and give yourself peace of mind for your day.

Develop an Attitude of Gratitude

Be glad for what you have through a sense of gratitude.  By mindfully taking note of all the blessings you currently have, you are able to appreciate what you have in front of you rather than all the things you may be yearning for.

Stop, take a breath and look around.  When you slow down and observe, you can more easily see how full and blessed your life is right now!

Do One Thing Each Week that is “Out of the Ordinary”

If you are a work-at-homer, you know that sometimes you need a change of scenery!

Once a week get out and go to a cafe or library to work.

Centre yourself in the new space by first observing all the things around you that will help you get outside the box.  Appreciate your new surroundings.  If at a cafe, grab a latte and enjoy the flavour! If at a library, find a business or self-help book and peruse!

Do something simple, but different.  It can often make a huge difference!
